Protecting your submerged pond plants
Lotus and water lily plants need protection from fish, especially koi. Larger, 3"-5" rocks placed over the roots will help prevent your fish from digging up your plants.
Use the Submerged Pump and Plant Protector to prevent koi from nibbling tender new shoots. The stems of the lotus are prickly and should hold up to hungry koi once they are big enough to hold their leaves above water. Water lilies, however, can be a favorite season-long snack. To keep koi from eating your expensive and beautiful lilies, consider offering your koi an economical plant substitute, such as water hyacinths.
Protecting your submerged pond pump
The quantity of debris that makes its way into your pond increases during autumn. This excess can place extra burden on pumps, filters, skimmer filters, and other equipment.
Remove fallen leaves on a regular basis to prevent accumulation. This not only allows your filtration system to work more efficiently but also prevents potential equipment damage due to clogs. A little bit of effort alleviates extra burden placed on costly pond equipment and ensures years of proper operation.
Pond rakes and skimmer nets are ideal for removing small or manageable amounts of leaves and debris. For submerged pumps that are not contained in a skimmer or pump vault, the Submerged Pump and Plant Protector provides additional pump protection against large debris.
